Site Promotion One of the most important yet overlooked aspects of a web site is its ability to be found. You can have a beautifully designed and informative site, however if it cannot be found through the search engines and directories, no one will know you exist. First you must understand the difference between a search engine and a directory. There are hundreds of them! A search engine (like Webcrawler and Lycos) searches for text within a web site. For example, if you type in "widgets" you will get a listing of web sites that contain the word "widgets". A directory (like Yahoo) gives you menu choices and sub-directories to choose from. Some of these directories will not accept certain listings. For example, if you sell real estate, a directory which lists automotive sites will not accept your listing. We will place you in all directories which apply to your site's products and services. There are several companies who offer these services for a fee. They submit your Web address robotically or give you the interface to do it yourself. The bad thing about this is that many of the search engines will not accept this method any longer. So when you can't find your listing, usually this is the reason. Submission to directories is quite time consuming and tedious work. However the results can be astounding.
